Yesterday I took my Bird Group to the newly refurbished
RSPB Reserve in Belfast and these shots are some of the birds we saw there. Below is a Teal.
Part of the refurbished reserve.
All the Godwits seen in this post are Black tailed.
There
were2 Wigeon sleeping and a couple of Shoveler feeding further away.
Shelduck, again mostly sleeping.
There were also a number of Moorhen and Coot around the reserve.
Female
Reed Bunting. There was over 30 in a
flock flying around the reserve.
There
were 2 Rabbits past by.
Some
of the Bird Group stopping for a coffee break.
This
is a new Sand Martin nest site. The Swift tower will be arriving shortly
Wood
Pigeon above and one of hundred of Black headed Gulls below.
There was also one Mediterranean Gull but too far away to photograph as were a goodly number of Lesser Black backed Gulls.
It
was a pity that none of the bird feeders were filled while we were there
however some of the group managed to see Goldfinch, Greenfinch, Long Tailed
Tit, Blue Tit and Redpoll. Here were also a flock of Starling, several Rook and
Magpie.
My Bird Group had an enjoyable morning at the reserve and I hope you enjoyed the birds I
managed to photograph.
I am linking this post with WILD BIRD WEDNESDAY.
Thanks
for visiting today and also to those who leave comments.
This is posh. Wonderful it is and I'm glad you know what the Swift nest thingy is as I saw on at Loch Leven and hadn't a clue what it was for.
ReplyDeleteHI Adrian Sorry, the nest box is for Sand Martins (hopefully). My mistake They are getting a Swift tower however it has not arrived as yet.
DeleteGood morning, Margaret,
ReplyDeleteNice to with a whole group, make photos of the birds.
You've made wonderful pictures.
I wish you a beautiful day.
Best regards, Irma
What a glorious place.
ReplyDeleteA great day out for the bird group, those Black-tailed Godwits are superb.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great day. The rabbit is cute.
ReplyDeleteHello Margaret, looks like an awesome place for birding. And a great outing for your birding group. The Godwits are one of my favorites and I love the pretty Teal and Shelducks.. The Martin nest is neat.. Great post and images.. Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteNice set of pictures. I really like teal - and the way they launch into the air - a spring of teal indeed.

Fun to see your Birding Group! And, wow, what a nice place to view/photo at the Reserve! My youngest granddaughter's middle name is Teal... after this duck. ;) blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteLooks like you went on a great outing! Wish I had gone with you!
ReplyDeleteReally a treat to view your world!
ReplyDeletewonderful shorebirds and ducks. love the teal and the shelduck.
ReplyDeleteNice bird photos! Looks like a great place to observe the wildlife.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking reserve, the hide looks dead posh. I don't think I have seen a bigger flock of Shelduck. If the swift tower arrives before the swifts do I'd be interested to hear if they occupy them straight (they often don't) away. In some places they play swifts calls to tempt them
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun outing with your birding group, and you captured so many different birds. I liked the nesting site for the Sand Martins, what a cool idea.
ReplyDeleteSome great images there Margaret and I especially like those Black-tailed Godwits. That Sand martin wall will be in use any day now I'm thinking.
ReplyDeleteThe reserve looks very accommodating, almost luxurious!
Great set of pictures. The only thing better would to be there with you.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a pretty decent reserve and lots of features to attract nesting birds. Super looking hide too.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteThat Teal shows such nice colours.

ReplyDeleteIt looks like a very enjoyable day for your birding group. Great to see so many Black-tailed Godwit. They do come down this way but not in great numbers. I do like the luxury of that viewing area!
ReplyDeleteI think the Teal and the Godwits are my favorites today. the Teal is so pretty, he looks just a bit like our Mallards. I like seeing your bird group...ah, there you are in the back!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bird photos Margaret. I especially like the first one. The rabbit was a nice surprise ;-)
ReplyDeleteSuper shots of the variety of birds shown here.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great way to watch birds. I bet your group had a fabulous visit. The colors on the Teal are so vivid that he looks as if he were a decoy.
ReplyDeleteCool place to watch birds! Gosh, look at the lenses on those cameras! You got some terrific shots!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful spot to visit. How lucky you are. The photos are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place to watch birds.
