FRIDAY'S HUNT and WEEKEND REFLECTIONS - Castle Espie

Time again for FRIDAY’S HUNT and WEEKEND REFLECTIONS.  This week we are looking for  the letter P, your favourite and  Whole.  All the images and video were taken at WWT Castle Espie and below I start with WHOLE.  This Hooded Meganser had a WHOLE fir cone/nut in its beak and it was trying to manoeuver it so it could swallow it and thankfully did not succeed otherwise I feel it would have choked.

Sir PETER Scott founded the Wildfowl Trust in 1946.

Now I could have dozens of images for P from Castle Espie but I will show you a few and then in the video I will show you the White faced Whistling ducks bathing and then PREENING, followed by the Ross’s Snow Geese and then the Red –breasted Geese also PREENING. The PLUMAGE in these birds is PARTICULARLY PRETTY. Then there is the PINTAIL duck below.

There are PLENTY of REFLECTIONS in the water and upstairs in a room in the centre I PHOTOGRAPHED  from this PICTURE window and you will see a large PINE tree on the left, PAMPAS grass on the right and 2 PONDS where the wildfowl are living.  In the last image a little later on, in the same room w I was attending a PHOTOGRAPHY class.  My FAVOURITE is the video at the end of this post.  CLICK HERE if it does not appear below.

Listen carefully and you will hear the White faced Whistling ducks, whistling.

Many thanks for your visit and tomorrow there are more surprises from Castle Espie.

Many thanks or all the comments you leave on this post.

  3. Beautiful ducks and merganser. I did hear the whistling in the video. It seems so odd, coming from a duck. I'm much more accustomed to hearing the quacking variety. To me, they always sound like they're laughing.

  15. In this home, we just love ducks and waterfowl, and these beauties swimming in the water are perfect. The preening and bathing avians are beautiful in their preferred habitat!

  18. The birds are beautiful! It does look like it's a good thing that first fellow didn't swallow the pine cone. The water scenes are really nice too. Looks like a beautiful place to visit. Sorry I'm so late to get around visiting this week. I do appreciate your participation!
