WEEKEND REFLECTIONS - Boat trip on Shire River at Mejete (3) and FRIDAY'S HUNT

These are Bushbuck Antelope coming down quietly to have a drink at this small water hole.  After coming off the boat on the River Shire in Malawi, these photographs were taken from the elevated position of a hide.

Now photographs for the Friday's Hunt meme.

As most of you know by now, I am back in Northern Ireland from Malawi however I thought I would share my last  photograph I took in Malawi and the first one I took when I arrived back.  Since we were looking for the letter 'C' this week, most of the photographs begin with 'C' so here we go.

Two of these CHILDREN belong to my family's gardener who lives with his wife and family in a house on the property, the other child belongs to Martha who comes to clean the house.  Bags all packed so off we go to the Blantyre Airport.  If I have to pick a FAVOURITE shot this would be it however I would rather  leave that up to you!

I am secure INSIDE the aeroplane CABIN, seat belt fastened and all the inside shots were taken from the other window seat that I was seating at.  As I say goodbye to Blantyre for now, as one chapter closes and another one opens in my life.

I loved when we were about the CLOUDS and the sun was setting and I even managed to get a ‘not so good’ reflections shot.  I am sure the lady who was sitting at that window wondered what I was doing as it liiked liked I was photographing her!!

The CAPTAIN came on and told us to look to the right hand side (my side) and rising about the CLOUDS, we would see Mount Kilimanjaro which is a dormant volcanic mountain in Tanzania. It is the highest mountain in Africa, and rises approximately 4,877 metres (16,001 ft) from its base to 5,895 metres (19,341 ft) above sea level.  I am afraid this shot did not do it justice.

On arriving home after nearly a month away, I had presents and cards to open and this hand painted CHRISTMAS CARD was from my good blogging friend Jo, who lives in South Africa. I was thrilled.

I am linking this post with WEEKEND REFLECTIONS.and FRIDAY'S HUNT

Many thanks for your visit and also to all those people who leave comments.

  1. Oh, I'm "C"rying as I read about you flying over my part of the world (that was, *sigh*) Love the children photo the best. I love East African children and have a folder full of photos of these sweet mites. I'm so glad you received my card. It looks quite cool on your post! I tried to be original (like your card was) and this was the best I could find: a young girl in Ladybrand who hand paints cards! Have a great day, dear friend. Jo

  2. Hi again, I've added a comment; this time about the bushbuck. What beautiful reflections; your photography is really great. In my experience, bushbuck are shy animals so these shots were really special. Thanks for sharing. Oh how I miss East Africa. Blessings Jo

  29. There is never enough to be said for you pictures, Margaret. What a thrill this trip had to be and what a perfect set of pictures (reflection and all) of the antelope. You may have been in a hide, but they clearly knew you were there. They keep looking your way to make sure you were not a danger to them. The children a lovely and the airplane pictures, well that is something I do and I truly appreciate the beauty on high, as do you. It's good to have some time to visit your blog ... it is probably short lived as I will be leaving for Thailand on February 9 ... I hope I can do it justice with my camera as you do with yours. Be well, Margaret ...

  33. Your antelope pictures are nice, Margaret. Those animals are really pretty.
Cute children in the picture too. I had to look up Malawi. I knew where I was when I found that it was formerly a part of Rhodesia.
We had a car club meeting today at John's, the owner of the cars I posted. Mrs. Jim and I, as well as John, are charter members of the Montgomery (a Texas county) Early Ford V8 Club. He wants $18,200 for the black 1930 Ford Coupe.

  37. The children are beautiful and the perfect word for the letter 'C'. I have perused some of your photos from Malawi as one of the ladies in a bible study group I attend lived there for years with her missionary husband and talks fondly of her time and a life long friend she made.
