It was nearly my last day with my family in Blantyre, Malawi
in 2014, when my daughter Judith gave me a birthday treat, taking me to Huntingdon House for afternoon tea. This guest house is situ ated within a wonderful tea plantation and below you can see some of the workers hard at work. They only pick the top 3 leaves from the tea plant.
Tomorrow you will see Huntingdon House itself but for
today we were having afternoon on the lawn which was a foot ball
pitch away from the house. It was quite a long walk for the servers to bring everything over to
us.
Everything was beautiful presented and tasted delicious
especially the chocolate cake that was still warm.
When travelling back to Blantyre, we realised how privileged
we were to be able to have this very special tea together. Judith needed to stop at a market to get some
fresh vegetables and I managed to snap a couple of shots.
Many
thanks for your visit and also to all those people who leave comments.
That's a nice place for a birthday tee.

Wow! all those 'cuppas' waiting to be picked...that would keep me supplied for a couple of days!
ReplyDeleteQuite a contrast in lifestyles there?
Wonderful finish for your delightful trip!
ReplyDeletequite a difference in worlds.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely spot for tea.
ReplyDeleteAfternoon tea (actually) on a tea plantation. How wonderful. I hope you enjoy Costa Rica. Have a safe trip!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place to enjoy afternoon tea!

What a great time you must have had having tea and then going to that vibrant market. Most interesting photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAfternoon tea with your daughter sounds like a perfect birthday experience to me! I've of course never been lucky enough to be in Malwi, but I understand what you mean about the contrasts (from when we traveled in the Caribbean and Mexico). Makes you think about life, that is for sure.
ReplyDeleteI want some of that cake---- Wow, you really got the feeling of that time and place in this post.
ReplyDeleteA trip worthy that you have made. I love the shot of the market.
ReplyDeleteYou two look like royalty, sitting on the lawn with your tea.How fun!
ReplyDeleteExtraordinary outing.
ReplyDeleteYou both look to be having a most delightful tea time! How fun.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that they only pick the top three leaves...wonder, do they go back later and pick more or do they wait for new growth?
ReplyDeleteI would never be able to carry stuff that far without spilling it!
Your tea selections look quite elegant, with flowers even, Margaret! That is quite a contrast to the market. The women are colorfully dressed. I saw a video on women picking tea in an Asian country, with similar large containers on their backs, they were very fast. I didn't know they grew tea in Africa as well, but I guess in that part of the world that makes more sense than importing it.
ReplyDeleteYou both look lovely and enjoying your tea. I do like these other images showing what a contrast between your tea and the markets. But the produce look fresh and healthy, so colorful too!
ReplyDeleteTea looks like an elegant affair!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful location for afternoon tea - great photos.
ReplyDeleteAmazing how different the cultures are...especially when we enter into another world. Tea time looks very nice:)
ReplyDeleteThe contrasts between your venue for afternoon tea and the local market are amazing, Margaret. That's a very elegant setting for your relaxation, and the flowers on the cake stand are a wonderful touch!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes - - - Richard
Love those shots of the market, great.
