Travelling to a farm in Glynn, County Antrim (Part 1)

We’re off again but this time on a train to Glynn in County Antrim. I am going to a farm to video the milking of 200 head of cows.  So sit back comfortably in you seat and see the sights as the train journey will take us along the coast Obviously all the shots retaken through the glass and the train was moving.

As a bird watcher, it is always interesting to see what birds you can ID from a moving train.  On this trip I saw 9 Egret, Swans, mallard, Oystercatcher, Redshank, 1 Wigeon and various species of Gulls.

There are about 10 stops before I get off and
this is one of the older style stations which I love.

We are nearly there but the tide  is far out so not as easy to see birds and being on a photo shoot I did not bring my telescope.  You might be able to make out the Black head, Herring and Common gulls as well as the Wigeon.  There were also 4 Red breasted Merganser but they always had their heads down.

The birds at the back are all Sandwich Terns.

Well we have arrived and before the train left I discovered they were building a new bridge over the River Glynn.

Before the farmer, John Blair picked me up, I walked a short distance to the bridge in this tiny village and tomorrow I will show you some fences I found and on Saturday you will see a video of a Dipper in the the River Glynn.

Thank you for visiting and also to those who leave comments.

  1. That was a long train ride.
I can't imagine having to milk 200 cows. By the time I'd finished and tidied up it would be time to start again.

    2. Margaret, I am a good cow milker. I started when I was thirteen and milked twenty four to twenty eight every Sunday morning and evening. I was cheap too ten bob I got. I used to do it all on my own, apart from the cows. Naughty they were they knew I was only little and used to kick the machine across the shipen.

  17. Hi Margaret, I love pictures taken from trains and pictures of trains! :-) These photos are great. Nice work on the birding as well. Your trains in the UK look a lot better than trains here in the US. You might be disappointed with our trains. I love the history of passenger trains before AMTRAK took over in the US. Thanks for sharing your photography and for your kind comment on my blog.
