Birds found outside the Nkhota Pottery Lodge, Malawi

Just before leaving Nkhota Pottery Lodge, I went for a last walk this time just outside the Lodge and these are the birds I found.  Today I am showing you the Little Bee – eater, Swallow, Yellow Weaver and Pied Kingfisher with a video at the end.

Although not of these shots are great, they are the best I could do.  As I said on a previous post I found a couple more clips of the Wire tailed Swallows feeding their young and you can see that at the end of this post.  I have also found the clips of another type of Swallow that I thought I had lost but as I found them further on on my travels and I will show you that when the time comes.

Most of these birds I found along a narrow stream with lots of reeds  and although I would see them through my bins, they were difficult to photograph because they were deep in the foliage.  There were dozens of nests, both old and newly built and several kinds of Weavers where breeding in this area.

Further on on my travel, I videoed one of the Weavers making his nest and will show you that later in a post.

I hope you enjoyed our 3 days stay at the Potteries and tomorrow we are heading even further north in Malawi and our first  stop will be to have coffee at the most beautiful lodge with its own private beach.

Thanks for visiting and also to those who leave comments.

  14. The Yellow Weaver is splendid! He is my favorite. I bet he looks like sunlight darting around. Next is the Kingfisher. I imagine that big thick beak can get quite a large fish.
