THROUGH MY LENS - GIANT'S RING - EXTRA

The Giant's Ring dates from the Neolithic period and was built around 2700BC, so it predates the Egyptian pyramids.  i thought i would share this interesting site with you. I am linking this post with Through My Lens.

It can be found near the Shaw's Bridge crossing of the River Lagan in Belfast, Northern Ireland, a point which has been used as a crossing of the river since at least the Stone Age.  The original purpose of the monument was most likely as a meeting place or as a memorial to the dead.

The site is a State Care Historic Monument and has ASAI (Area of Significant Archaeological Interest) status.

Danny, one of my bird class took photograph some years ago and we thank him for letting me share it with others.  More informmation can be found HERE.

Many thanks for visiting and also for leaving comments.

  2. I find these sites fascinating - and we have the audacity to call the people who built them primitive!

  6. I'm fascinated by those ancient neolithic sites. That one reminds me of the Ring of Brodger on Orkney.
