Hersey Nature Reserve, I.O.W.

Eileen and I arrived at Hersey Nature Reserve which is a little reserve just off the sea front at Seaview.  During our stay there, we saw 7 Little Egrets, 4 Snipe, Tufted and Mallard ducks, Coot, Moorhen, Little Grebe, Lapwing, Heron, Barnacle Geese and Black headed Gulls.

These Barnacle Geese are quite a distance away in this field below this house.

Lapwing

This a view looking straight out from the hide.
Can you see the house and Barnacle Geese on the hill?! No  Perhaps the 18 Coot on the right?  No, well what about the Crows in the left field?

There were about  eighteen Coot in a field

Just opposite from the hide there were 4 Snipe although they were VERY difficult to see.  The shot above and below, Eileen took, the rest are mine.  They are not great shots but I hope you can see some snipe in the following shots

I have a short video which I hope you will enjoy and will include the snipe.  I have included bboth slips that Eileen and I took.

It can be accessed at

I hoped our time at Hersey Nature Reserve and the birds Eileen and I saw.

  4. Hi Margaret! Strange to see birds like the Little Egret and the Greenshank on the other side of the world, as I am familiar with here in Australia. The Tufted Ducks bring back memories for me also, of my time living in London. They are such pretty, exotic-looking ducks to me that I was always surprised to see them in mundane little city ponds!

    1. HI Cristian Glad you enjoyed this post. If you look closely at the Little Egrets's feet, you will ssee that they are yellow. Your Australian Little Egreet has black feet. Many thanks for your comment.

  5. Nice set of pictures - have you become used to see the Little Egrets, or are they still a bit of a novelty?

  22. Margaret, they're all so beautiful, but that first shot is stunning! The creatures themselves are so complex and amazing, but when you think of the Mind behind that creation, it's beyond comprehension.
