Our RSPB Bangor Group went birding to Newcastle, Country
Down on Saturday and in total we saw 46 different species of birds. However, today I am showing you an unfortunate
injured Common Scoter which we found on the stony beach on the other side of
the harbour wall. You will see in the
video at the end what one of the group tried to do for the duck.
If you cannot see the video below, CLICK HERE.
As you can see from the video, the duck was unable to walk properly nor did it seem to want to be in the water. If it could do neither of these things, it would eventually starve. In the future, I will show you more photographs of our day out birding.
I am linking this post with WILD BIRD WEDNESDAY.
Thank you for visiting. Many thanks for your kind comments.
Oh, I would want them to stay and be alive, poor Scoter.
ReplyDeleteHI Bob Yes, we would all want that. In fact we did see some Scoter but they were quite a distance out to sea.
DeleteI often see injured ducks on beaches/rivermouths. I think they would suffer as much from the stress of being picked up as anything else..................I tend to leave them be.
ReplyDeleteHi Staurt I very much agree but this is what the leader on this occasion wanted to do so you say 'nothing'! Thanks for your comment.
DeleteHow sad for the Scoter..Maybe it can recover.. , I can hope.. Great shots! Happy Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I can't see this having a happy ending, unless a fox happens along, and then I sure he will be very pleased. Letting nature take its course feels harsh, but I think its the best way.
ReplyDeleteCheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
How sad to see this bird in that condition, Margaret. I suspect that Stuart is right but, as with my Goldfinch, one always feels the need to try and help.
ReplyDeleteOh the poor scoter!!
ReplyDeletealways so hard to see serious injuries. always wish for a quick death by predator.
ReplyDeletePoor little duck. That scoter may be somebody's mother!

Beautiful little duck, hope he/ she was OK. 46 different species- wow! x
ReplyDeletePoor bird! It's always sad to see injured birds.
ReplyDeleteAww, poor thing, I hope someone will help him. Is there any animal rehab nearby?
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and video. It is never good to find an injured bird.
ReplyDeleteHeart-hurting. I hope its end was quick and merciful.
ReplyDeleteGreat Photos and video!
ReplyDeleteThe poor thing! Hope a rescue place took him in.
ReplyDeletepoor little bird. Was he taken to a bird rescue? There is one near where i live that is very good and it is quite amazing the variety of birds here in Texas that they help.
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame and I would tend to leave such an injured bird alone and let nature take its course.
ReplyDeleteso sorry she is injured, we need them healthy.
