These photographs were all taken at the Hersey Nature Reserve, I.O.W. and are of the Snipe. At first I saw 2
Snipe in the reeds, however on closest inspection and I have to admit, very
difficult to see, I found 12 Snipe. I
don’t think I have seen as many at one time before and I was thrilled. Can you see the 4 Snipe in the 4th
shot? When you look at the video at the
end of this post, in one shot there are 8 Snipe. You may have to stop it to be able to find
them. So for now, grab your cuppa and
enjoy.
Coot walking through the reeds where the Snipe were resting.

Many thanks for you comments on any of my post.
Love that stripey head. Which made me think of emu chicks. The shape is wrong, but the stripes triggered memories.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of Snipe.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly are the masters of camouflage Margaret...the more you count the more you see!!...[;o)
ReplyDeleteAwesome shots and sighting of the Snipe! They blend in well with the habitat. Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeletethey seem quite ok with your presence too Margaret; beautiful shore-birds
ReplyDeleteGeorgous pictures Margaret. You really captured the character of this lovely bird with those pictures.
ReplyDeleteSo there actually is such a bird as a snipe. My older brothers used to take me 'snipe hunting,' wandering far out into the field on our farm and making me stand there for hours holding a gunney sack while they went off to find the snipe and herd them into the bag. What they actually did was go back to the house and watch TV while I stood there, dutifully, for hours! I was 7. I'll never forget that, those pills! They also had me test the electric fence, but that's another story and has nothing to do with snipe. Beautiful photos, and how nice to know they actually exist. :-)
ReplyDeleteFantastic pictures of the Snipe, and the video. I've never seen more than one at a time.
ReplyDeletei'm always happy when i spot one here!
ReplyDeletesweet little birds, but that beak looks so awkward on such a little creature. I wonder if the Coot would bother them.
ReplyDeleteWe've just been learning about Snipe at college so it was lovely to see your photos :-)
ReplyDeleteI love Snipes. They are some of the coolest looking birds in flight or just hiding out along the mud banks. Very nice shot:)
ReplyDeleteHi Margaret, wow that must have been exciting to see all of those Snipe. I enjoyed your video very much.
ReplyDeleteNice Photos!
ReplyDeleteThose Snipe are experts at camouflage.
