When Jimmy and I didn't find the Spoonbill at Castle Espie. We headed to Islandhill where we found Whooper Swans about 3 fields away. We decided to go down a farmer's lane and sure enough we managed to get quite a bit closer to them, in fact there were 4 different fields of them, totalling about 300+ As I have done a complete post recently on Whooper Swans with lots of information (see 16 November 2013), I suggest you get your cuppa, put the post onto slide mode and enjoy the Whoopers.
At the end there is a short video.
I hope you enjoyed the Whooper Swans we found at Islandhill.

Deletereally I am so jealous of you and all of your wonderful birding jaunts ;-) but so glad you share! This is such a super set of photos and I'm a bit of a gourmand wishing that your video had been longer.
ReplyDeleteHI Lynn Don't be jealous as you have lovely places over in France which you show us. Yes the video could have been longer but I was conscenrating on trying to get closer to the Swans to get some shots of them. You can only get so far and that is still quite a distance before they all lift. Anyway, glad you enjoyed the Whoopers and thanks for comment.

DeleteLovely images Margaret, such beautiful swans to see, especially in large numbers like this!...[;o)
ReplyDeleteHI Trevor Yes I was very fortunate to find the farmer's lane so that we could get a bit closer to them. From the road, I could only see the number in one field and it was not until I got down a long way that it was clear there were 3 more fields of them! JImmy did not come the whole way with me as it was VERY muddy!! Glad you like them and thanks for comment.
