Nature At Quarr Abbey

This post today is about the Nature that I found walking to Quarr Abbey and every time I went, I passed this wonderful typical English cottage that I thought you would like to see.

The day was very hot and at first I only saw the horse sheltering from the sun standing tight up against the wall and the only shade around.  It was not until I got closer that I saw all the sheep laying  head to toe doing the same thing.

Now I have to confess (well where better place to do in than at an Abbey!) that the next 6 photographs really should never have been taken.  After the tour of the abbey in the morning, ( yesterday's post), in the afternoon,  Eileen and I walked through the various paths in the forest at Quarr and we were greatly surprised to be met by the Monk that had given us the tour that morning in his jogging gear!  He never stopped however he told us that we were not supposed to be in this part as it was meant for private contemplation of the Monks.  Oh dear!   We had not seen any signs to tell us this.  We really did not know how to quickly get out of there and eventually found ourselves in the farm yard when another person said we should not be here either and asked how we got there.  He came with us while we showed him the way we can started from and much to his amazement the yellow tape that stopped people going that way, had disappeared!!!

Anyhow, I am glad we really were innocent and found this lovely red squirrel who sat in the V of the tree just looking down at us.  We eventually moved as he did not seem to want too!

These are some of the Fungi that we found on the trees and I was interested to see grass growing through some of them.  Anyone know what type they are?

One of the gardeners let me into this private vegetable garden to see the many (mostly white) butterflies  on this lovely plant called Verbera       The Sunflowers looked wonderful also.

Speckled Wood

Wood Pigeon in one of the lovely meadows.

The Monks rear Pigs. Perhaps someone can tell me what types they are.

On the way home and if you had seen yesterday's post, you will remember the photo where the hedge had been cut so that people could see the view of the old abbey and the sea.  Well there were also sheep in the  field.

I saw this rope and had to photograph it because I thought it might look good in black and white and I think it does.

That's our walk over so I hope you not only enjoyed the Nature in this blog but also the history surrounding Quarr Abbey in yesterday's post.

THANKS YOU ALL FOR YOUR COMMENTS AND VISITING TODAY.

  5. I've been to the Abbey it is a wonderfully evocative place. The cottage in the first pic is lovely and I am v envious of your red squirrel- we never saw them when we were there despite looking long and hard! Worth a mild bit of trespass... :-)

  9. Hi Margaret, I didn't notice the sheep in the photo with the horse. I just thought they were rocks... ha ha... I did notice that the horse was taking in the shade.....Obviously, so were the sheep!!!

Sorry you went into an area where you weren't supposed to go--but you didn't know... You are forgiven!!!!! Great photos in that area. It's no wonder it is used for meditation.

Glad you got into the garden to get all of the butterfly shots. Beautiful!!!!!

AND--I love your B&W photo of the rope... Neat.
    Hugs,

  10. Oh my gosh, the pig laying down is half dots and half grey, and such a sharp line!!! Your butterflies are amazing, I love the one where he is looking at you and we can see his face!! And the cute curious squirrel peeking. The rope shot was an excellent idea because we can see it both ways, I like the color best because of the touch of green with the bit of grass. The fungi looks like foam!! LOVE the sweet cottage, almost looks like one meant for two. And that wall with the animals getting shelter, what a find!!! I am SO very glad that you trespassed!! Besides, it was all their fault because the tape came off.

  14. Gorgeous. And how lucky that the yellow tape had been removed. Instead of cutting through the red tape you were lucky enough to bypass the yellow.
