It may be hard to believe but these birds are all the Speckled Pigeon which I photographed in South Africa.

  6. Goodness! Wonder if they are a pair, but they look too much alike. The feathers are so pretty, and have plenty of fluff. Red eye circles makes them look mad.

  7. This is a new pigeon to me. Thank you for expanding my knowledge. Also think you for the information of the Wood Duck. We have them here and I've always thought them great looking.

  8. They look quite elegant. I have yet to get a good picture of our local pigeons and some of them are quite lovely.

  9. Look like two different birds!! Threre is no white marks on the flanks at all and the breast colour is not the same. Could they be young birds? I have no idea when South African birds nest!!

    1. I Agree, they do look different however they are not.Young of these Pigeon are the same as adults except that they are duller in colour and do not have the red eye patch. The reason we canot see the spots of these puffed up birds is because they have that part of the wing tucked nearly under them and we can then mainly see there back blue feathers
