THROUGH MY LENS - Dawn Chorus at Kiltonga Nature Reserve

Last Saturday I attended a Dawn Chorus guided by Dot Bleakley at the Kiltonga Nature Reserve at 5.00am and standing in the car park before walking round the lake we heard, several Song Thrush and Blackbird, a Mistle Thrush and a Robin. It was too dark to to take photos then.  As we walked further round the lake, we heard, Dunnock, Chaffinch, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler and Goldcrest.

By the time we reached the other side of the lake the light was a bit better and we saw 2 sets of Swans both with nests, heard numerous Wren and now the Robins stopped singing and came down to feed on the grass.

Coot

Once again when the light was up, the ground feeders like this Song Thrush was busy collecting worms for their chicks.

A Moorhen wakens up and across on the other side of the lake one of the Swans is sitting on her nest.

As we were nearing the finish of our Dawn Chorus, we spied these Greylag geese with seven goslings and I videoed them.
There were also another family of geese that had 3 goslings however were too far away to photograph.

On the video, the Greylag parents were worried at the 2 male Mallards being so close their family and you wil see that on the video.

I hope you enjoyed seeing these photographs from the Dawn Chorus.

  25. Oh I love your dawn chorus --thank you for sharing it! They greylag family is wonderful!!! We have only one type bird in our chorus here in the RV Resort, but they have a varied song -- the mockingbird sings a great song to wake up to! Well, unless you count the occasional drum background by the woodpeckers!

  29. Oooh wow, check out that swan. That is something I rarely see and when I do they are usually black ones. Those goslings are so cute and I do love the close ups of the geese with their meal around their mouths.
