500th Post - Helmet Diving off Green Island on the Barrier Reef.

Hurray, Internet in the car!  So as I missed my own 500h post, I am posting it for you today as a n extra.

About five years ago when I was in Australia, I was invited to go Helmet diving by the man who owned the Seawalker business and I was very excited at trying this next experience.  My daughter and 2 grand children accompanied me to Green Island and from there I went Helmet Diving. Do I hear you asking, what is helmet diving? Well it could best be described as ‘walking’ along under the sea, not swimming around, and wearing a helmet.

The helmet looks a little like the pearl diver helmets of old, and kind of works in a similar way. The helmet (newer and much lighter than the old fashioned ones!) sits on ones' shoulders, encasing the entire head. Connected to the surface with an air-hose, the helmet provides a constant supply of fresh air to the helmet wearer, when you are under the water.

This experience is open to most people, and even non-swimmers can enjoy walking under the water with the fish.

I was treated ’right royally’ and apart from giving me this experience free, the photographer took all these photographs and give me them, as well as a video of the other fish is the vicinity.  It was a wonderful experience and one I will treasure.

You can see this fish has a great sense of humour as he laughed at my joke!!

When I came back, they took a photograph of us all.  Annika was only over 1 year old and Daniel was about 6 years old.  Judith had brought them out to the boat where I was launched from and they enjoyed seeing that.  We had a wonderful day on Green Island and were given the run of the resort free.  The man also gave me photographs of some of the fish that I saw when I was snorkeling and that was another lovely memento of a brilliant day out.  I will show these photographs some other day.

I hope you liked what I decided to share for my 500th post.  I have been blogging just over 17 months and have enjoyed not only posting but reading, seeing your photographs and learning a lot on the many posts I comment on.
