Nice intimate portrait of the stone curlew! I expected to see a long curved bill in a curlew. Now I must look up the etymology of its name.
I learned that the name of curlew is derived from the sound of its call, not its curved bill: History and Etymology for curlew-- Middle English, from Anglo-French curleu, of imitative origin
What a large and impressive bird! I have never heard of him. Wow, look at the long legs. He reminds me of the Road Runners here.
