Common Gulls & Black headed with chicks on Copeland Island (9)

Recently I showed you the photographs of the 2 larger of our gulls breeding on Copeland Island however today it is the turn of the Common and Black headed Gull with their chicks.  There is a short video at the end of the post.

  6. The chicks look rather unattractive. I suppose that is part of keeping them save from predators. A fine series of this family.

  12. Beautifully illustrated post, Margaret. I think that these two species of gulls are amongst the most attractive, visually, of the gulls, even if they are not the most popular of species. I'm sorry, but I find their chicks to be rather unatractive - unlike the chicks of most other species.

    The islands here sound like a wonderful place to visit!

  18. I love gulls......it's good to see them so that they can be studied and recognized out in the field. The Black-headed is similar to several species here but the hood goes up slightly more on the head. The Common Gull has a different head formation....much rounder. Thanks for sharing!
