BIrding Along Coast from Bangor to Groomsport

Thank you all for your concerns about my blogger problems.  Blogger/Google are having problems and I am just hoping they can resolve them so I can continue blogging.  This is the last bird post I have in draft so enjoy.

As usual, my bird group, some of which you see below, always go out to lunch in December but before that no matter what the weather we go birding from Bangor Pier, round the coast (2 miles) into Groomsport Village.  Although cold, we always have a dry day.  In this post I will show you a few of the 30 birds we found that morning.

Black headed Gull singing  'Ding Dong Merrily on High'!

Posed for photograph when finished singing!

At Bangor Pier there is a stony little beach.
Can you see the Pied Wagtail?  They are so well disguised.

Ah! there he is and he is also singing.
What jolly birds we have at Christmas time.

Further round the coast at Ballyholme I spied another Pied Wagtail.

These are Black headed Gulls and Oystercatchers.

These were very difficult to see as they blended in so well with their surroundings.  It took my class a while to see them for themselves.
Dunlin and Ringed Plover.

Also some Turnstones and you can see the sun came out for us.

While we stopped in Groomsport, seating overlooking the Bay having coffee, I spied this Wild Garlic that was in flower.

We watched the Gulls, Turnstones and Lapwing all having baths.

Then it was time to make our way back to Bangor ready for lunch.   Needless to say, we all enjoyed that very much.

30 different bird species seen and then a wonderful lunch, what better way to start the Christmas spirit.

Thank you for visiting.

I have a very short video that can be accessed at

  3. you have a lovely group of ardent birders there Margaret, and I like that they are hardy to endure whatever weathers too. It was hard to find the Pied Wagtail at Bangor Pier. And are those orange stones? How remarkable if they are. You know the fun part too is being able to stop for that coffee at the end and reflect on your good outing and the success of it. Both our fingers are crossed for a successful reincarnation of our blogging days Margaret :)
