Some years ago I took a guided tour of C.S LEWIS around Belfast
where he was born. Ross Wilson’s statue of
LEWIS stands in front of the the
wardrobe from his book, The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe and is in C. S. LEWIS Square in Belfast.
This LION below is on the back of the wardrobe.
His grandfather was the first Rector at St
Marks Church where Jack (as he insisted on being called) attended with his
parents and on the Manse door was a LION
door knocker.
Jack and Warnie (his brother) came back
to St. Marks in 1935 to dedicate this LOVELY
stained glass window to their parents. The LATIN
inscription translates as;
‘To the greater glory of God and dedicated to the memory of
Albert James LEWIS, who died on the 25th September 1929, aged 67, and also of
his wife, Flora Augusta Hamilton, who died on the 23rd August 1908, aged 47.’
Above is the home called LITTLE LEA where
Jack spent his childhood.
