This
Seamus Heaney Museum is so well laid out in various sections and today I am
showing you one that is called " inspiration and imagination". As I said yesterday, (CLICK HERE) if you
missed that post) today I am featuring the birds that inspired some of his
poems.
I
divided it so you could read it more
easily.
The
Bittern was stuffed and sat on his desk and if you look in tomorrow you will
also see it in the last portrait he had done and it in itself has an
interesting story.
I
am linking to Wild Bird Wednesday.(Stewart, excuse me this week because
although these birds are wild, they are no longer with us!
Many
thanks for visiting and also for all your comments.
The blackbird poem is gorgeous, deep, and sorrowful. I am so glad you printed it! It is just as good, or almost as good as Poe's The Raven. I put the computer screen up to my nose to read it, then scrolled and saw you had made it large for us! A new and beautiful poem for me!
ReplyDeleteBirds have, and will inspired so many artists. Across genres.
ReplyDeleteSuch an interesting series of posts. Thanks for showing the poem - it is beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteHello, I enjoyed the Blackbird and the poem! Interesting exhibit. Happy Tuesday, enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteThe birds are not wild - they are livid!!
ReplyDeleteI have a translation of Beowulf by SH on the book shelf to my right!
Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
I've discovered that I'm a huge bird fan since I started blogging...whether painting or photographing them. Great photos and poem. Can I ask a bird related question...how do you get the wild birds to feed from your hand! I have masses of visitors and three separate feeding areas, but would seriously love to have them come on my hand.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing once again :D
I love birds. They give us a lot of joy with their singing.
ReplyDeleteMargaret, I like your account and photos.
Greetings.
What an interesting take on how you've joined Wild Bird Wednesday this week. So fascinating the birds that influenced Seamus Heaney.
ReplyDeleteReally unusual & interesting to see the link between his poems & these beautiful photos of the birds!
ReplyDeleteNice documenting of what is there. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI love the sounds of Blackbirds singing in the gardens when I go home. Quite unlike Japan where there is little birdsong in the towns.......
ReplyDeleteI love anytime a museum or wildlife area does a focus on birds, living or on display because it teaches us about our history with birds and how important conservation is. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteAnother great post Margaret. I love reading poetry and now I will be adding a book of Seamus Heaney to our bookshelf :)
ReplyDeleteI knew little of Seamus Heaney but I do now. Thanks Margaret. Phil (Stuart)!!
