You asked about Prairie Potholes. They are small depression lakes and wetlands carved out by the last glacier. These wetlands are highly productive of waterfowl, shore birds, and grassland birds. They also store vast amounts of fresh water that reduce flooding and recharge aquifers. The Prairie Pothole region extends across five States in the U.S. and three Provences in Canada in what was the largest grass land in the world. If you look very closely at the surface of water in my photo you can see many ducks.
