Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, South Africa

Now while walking around the Kirstenbosch Gardens we saw this tree called the Wood Cyad which is the only one individual male tree that shares the exact same genes as the original wild tree which is extinct now and even though throughout the world there are 500 plants, all of them come from basal suckers or offsets from the original clump discovered by John Medley Wood but none have got the wild gene.

The Kirstenbosch specimen is a sucker from one of the Durban Botanic Garden plants, and was planted in Kirstenbosch in 1916. More interesting information can be found HERE.   The other images are of other parts of the garden

Many thanks for your visit and also for your comments.
