Painting the pots at the Nkhota - Koto Pottery Lodge. Malawi

Following on from Mondays post when my daughter and 2 grandchildren ‘throw some pots’ on the wheel at Nkhota - Koto Pottery Lodge, I am now going to show you them painting some of their pots.  Judith also wanted a teapot and fortunately the pottery had one just one that had been recently fired but not painted and Judith got her wish.  Daniel declined to paint his pots so the girls did it for him.

Before they started a member of staff gave them a few tips.

There was great concentration as the girls painted and  I photographed  and videoed the swallows above their heads as the parents came back and forth with food for their 2 young ones.  (Yesterday’s post).

When they had completed all the pots from the day before, 11 in total, they were left at the pottery to have them fired.  We were continuing our  holiday before they would be ready and so they sent them by post to Blantyre.

These are some of the items that they made apart from the 2 cups and saucers that I bought them to match Judith’s teapot. My son in law took the photo for me yesterday and  sent it to me from Malawi.  Thanks Jon.

I have a short video.  CLICK HERE if it does not appear below.

I hope you enjoyed this post.  The girls were delighted that they had tried 'throwing a pot' and were pleased with their painted efforts.

Many thanks for visiting and also to those who leave comments.

  5. I want a zebra teapot and how lovely are you to buy the top up matching cups and saucers. I'm enjoying your trip around Malawi, I remember it as a beautiful country with beautiful people although I haven't been for 25 years. It is one country in Africa that I would love to revisit.
Love the video and Annika painting her vase, both gorgeous!
