SUNDAY THOUGHT - Peacock at Blessingbourne House

For the king had ships that went to Tarshish with the servants of Huram; once every three years came the ships of Tarshish, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.

2 Chronicles 9:21

Photographed at
Blessingbourne House
County Tyrone, Northern Ireland.

The Peacock is indigenous to India. It was brought to King Solomon by his ships from Tarshish which in this case was probably a district on the Malabar coast of India, or in Ceylon.

Thanks for visiting and also to all who leave comments.

  1. I nevr knew where Tarshish was. The royals would not be happy with Solomon importing ivory.

  3. Loved seeing my namesake this morning.
My Peacock ancestry is from Scotland . . .
I do remember on one of our Ireland trips when we were driving in the West, in the Ring of Beara, we saw many, many Peacocks in the hills . . . Roaming freely like Robins and Finches do here.
It is a beautuful bird, the whites are pretty too . . . sometimes fiesty and sassy . . .
    Happy days Margaret . . .
