THROUGH MY LENS - Hooded Crows Nesting in the middle of Belfast

Many mothers and fathers bring their children to sit on the grass and have a picnic at Belfast City Hall. This Hooded Crow built a nest at the top of a tree on the Donegall Square North side of the City Hall, reared her four chicks, which fledged and flew off yesterday. Danny, a member of my bird group shot this a couple of days ago in the sunshine, and sent it to the picture desk at the Belfast Telegraph, but so far they have not published it, as far as we know.

I am linking this post with THROUGH MY LENS although technically it is through Danny's lens!  Many thanks to him for sharing with all of us again.

Although I will be publishing scheduled posts, I will NOT be commenting on blogs until after 31 July as my family are home from Malawi.

Hopefully you will find time to read some of the posts during this time and I hope to read as many of your as time premits.

Many thanks for visiting and also for posting your comments.

  1. I have a huge soft spot for the corvid family. Such intelligent, family minded birds. Thank you and Danny.

  5. Margaret, you have introduced me a bird new to me. Never seen a hooded crow before. Many people don't like crows, but I enjoy seeing the small flock that hangs out in our back yard.

  6. I love the light in this picture. We have no hooded crows here.

  7. This shot gives the appearance that Danny might have climbed the tree to get the best possible angle. Great light too.
I have a family of crows that visit my garden every day. The trouble is they arrive at dawn and the new arrivals are constantly 'crawing' for attention!
