GOOD FENCES - Malawi

If you have been following these posts you will know that Judith and I are on in a boat on the River Shire and the family were visiting Mejete for the day.  Jon was looking after his  and  2 of their friends' children.  They happened to find the lake and you can see that none of them were 'fenced in'!

You can just see in this first shot the edge of our boat where we were 'fenced in'.

When the children spotted us, naturally they waved however the guide who had a very keen eye, spotted Elephants about 6 feet away from them hidden by bushes.  We frantically waved and shouted for the children to get inside the car and fortunately they heard us.  You cannot be too careful with wild animals around as they are well camouflaged. A lesson well learned without incident.

I am linking this post with GOOD FENCES.

Many thanks for your visit and also to all those people who leave comments.

  3. Hello Margaret! Lovely shots of the children, but you can't be too careful where elephants are concerned. Actually before you mentioned them I thought I spotted elephants hiding in the scrub in your first shot!!

  8. Gone are the days when you are allowed to ride in the back here in Australia. I remember what fun it was. I guess it still happens out bush and on farms, but it is actually illegal here as in many places. They look as if they were having a great time.

  23. Hi Margaret! First, thank you for the New Year's wishes and for staying in touch!! I have fallen behind with my much appreciated blogging friends, but just did some scrolling through to try to catch up a little bit with your many fascinating comings and goings! What I wouldn't give to see such an incredible variety of wildlife. Your photographs are nothing short of astounding. Secondly, I read that your daughter (I believe) and her family were involved in a head-on crash. How very frightening, but I am so happy for you that all are okay. Terribly sad about the mother of the other driver. May she rest in peace. Finally, I love the photo of the kids waving, even as elephants roam in the background. It would be a lifelong dream satisfied to see such a sight! Wishing you and your loved ones the very best throughout 2016 and beyond!
