GOOD FENSES - On the beach at Pottery Lodge, Malawi

As you saw from Monday’s post we are staying at Pottery Lodge for 3 days and we are the only people staying so we have the beach all to ourselves except for a few locals passing by.  Not many fences today but then who would want to be fenced in when you can have all this beauty and freedom around you.  Hope Tex agrees!

We went over to this building although there was only us there and therefore not open for business but it had a great swing (inside) that the children really enjoyed playing on.  There were also 2 Wire tailed Swallows posing well that I got great video of, however the bad news is, I cannot find it!!!

View from our ‘girls’ cottage.

Now are there any bloggers who could do this and not drop it!!!
Whatever is in those containers it was 'fenced' in and it stayed there!

I hope you enjoyed the images of this idyllic place.

I am linking this post with GOOD FENCES.

Thank you for visiting and also to those who leave comments.

Nice to see how the locals live there.
I must not think to run with a bucket of water on my head.
    Best regards, Irma

    1. HI Irma Yes running with a bucket especially if it had water in it could be wet work but cooling!! Thanks for comment.

  5. Nice photos, Margaret! I would love to be walking barefoot in that beautiful white sand! The white that I walk on these days isn't kind to bare feet.

  7. Wow...a dream of mine. To have a beach all to myself so I can sit, reflect on life, watch the beauty of the day pass by and enjoy it all!!!

    Lucky you.

  10. Just a beautiful setting and yes I agree it should not be fenced in. It is always fascinating to see locals carrying a bucket on their heads. I remember my grandmother telling me, who was born and raised in Naples, Italy~ stories of how she walked and carried water on her head. I wouldn't get very far however. LOL
    Enjoy your getaway!

  11. I find it fascinating how these people learn to carry such weights on their heads and keep them balanced. A lovely place, indeed. Great pictures....enjoy your day!

  13. I think the railing works for a fence very well. Interesting to see the old ways of carrying things. I know I couldn't do it. It looks very nice there. Blessings.

  20. Hi Margaret,
What a lovely post with some fantastic photos!
I was particularly thrilled to see the bicycle and the ladies carrying vessels (pots) on their head, without holding them with their hands. Now, that requires some finesse and I have seen it thousands of times in India.
    Have a Beautiful Day!
    Peace :)

  21. I love your "fence" even if it is a stretch and I would trade that sand for our snow in a second. As a kid, my mother used to have us walk with a book on our head to learn how to walk smoothly like a lady or dancer. We made a game out of it to see who could go the furthest without dropping the book ... so I would be willing to try it with a bucket, but chances are I have long since lost the technique:0 Wonderful pictures, Margaret and I await the finding of the Wire Tailed Swallow Video :) Be well, and never stop enjoying life as you do ... it is a joy for all of us as you share it.

  26. What a beautiful and calm place! And I love the old red boat by the waterside. Wow, those women have great balance. The first picture, she has to help hold it. Maybe because it is very heavy and full of water? Then the next lady is hands free!! I bet it is better for your back to carry loads this way.

  43. So serene looking - a lovely spot! Love that last shot!
Years ago my friends and I would practice walking with a book on our heads - I wasn't good at it so I'm sure I'd never get where I was supposed to with a large container like these ladies. :)

  44. Hello again, I enjoyed this post. I've been lucky enough to stay in beautiful water front lodges in Kenya that were mostly deserted. It is nice for the atmosphere but not so good for the local business.

  45. I agree, there's no need for fencing on such a beautiful stretch of beach! How wonderful and peaceful to have the place to yourselves. I wish my 'roadway' was a beach as serene as this.
