GOOD FENCES - Collared Palm Thrush in a Vegetable Plot at Pottery Lodge, Malawi

I went for a wander around the Nkhota -Koto Pottery Lodge area and came upon this fantastic fertile vegetable plot and found this gorgeous Collared Palm Thrush sitting on one of the fences.  Enjoy the shots.

Collared Palm-Thrush- Cichladusa arquata

20 cm; 29–38 g

A strongly patterned palm-thrush; incomplete narrow, black necklace, which divides pale buff throat and chest from greyish head, is diagnostic. Pale blue-grey eye and contrasting black pupil is striking. Juv. is streaked on crown and nape, and mottled dark brown below; necklace indistinct.

Locally common resident in thickets in Hyphaene and Borassus palm savanna.

Voice: Explosive, varied song, often including ‘weet-chuk' or ‘cur-lee chuk-chuk' phrases and imitations of other birds' songs.

I hope you enjoyed seeing this post today and I didn’t have to think ’out of the box’ for once!!

I am linking this post with GOOD FENCES.

Tomorrow, once again we have to be up early as we are taking a sunrise walk with an armed guard.  So pop in to see some of the reflections I found and on Saturday, I will actually take you with me on the walk.

Thanks you for visiting and also for leaving comments.

  11. The bird's eyes are what really grab my attention. They are very bright and intense, like he has had just a bit too much coffee.

  17. That's a pretty neat looking reed like fence, very different from what we see here. The bird is just adorable as we don't have those here either so it was doubly fun to view.

  20. That thrush looks and sounds a lot like our 'thrashers' in the United States. Birds are so amazing!

  21. This could almost be a study of how birds hold on to fences, I found I was looking how their feet where positioned.
I'd steer well clear of the crocs.
