Baby Moose on the lawn!

What would you think if you got this message one morning from an employee? “Hello, boss I cannot come in to work today.  There was a Moose born on my front lawn, and the mom won't let me out of the house!!!!” Look at ALL the photos.

That is exactly what happened.  This mother Moose picked a small, quiet neighbourhood and gave birth to her baby in this front yard just off John Grant Back Road, at 5:30 am.  This 12 hour old calf, was born in the middle of downtown Meaghers Grant, Nova Scotia, Canada.

A friend sent me these photographs the other day and I thought I would share them with you.

What an awesome place we live in to see such a sight!  I wouldn't want to go to work that day if these two were on my lawn. Would you?

Thanks for your visit and also to those who leave comments.

  1. Oh my gosh! Usually, wild animals hide to give birth. I have never heard of doing it on someone's lawn. And no, I would not leave the house, and I would take about a hundred pictures.

    1. Hi Keith Yes I agree. It would be a bit harder to move than a robin! Have a great weekend.

  5. How gorgeous - gives you the happy tingles doesn't it? Love the welcome to the world kiss and the pair curled up outside the front door. I reckon if the Mother Moose choose your house to give birth that would have to be a good omen for the year wouldn't it ?!

  6. How wonderful that the mother moose felt comfortable/safe in the human environment to drop her calf. Nobody could have dragged me out of that house while I was doing my 'adoration of the Magi' bit. How blessed would one feel to have that on one's front lawn!!!

  17. I would be glued to my window with camera in hand just as your friend clearly was. I wouldn't go to work or anywhere else until she moved unless, of course, there was an emergency. How cool this is ... love it! Would love to have been your friend, or, at very least, at your friends house. Thanks, Margaret ... these are amazing!
