Black and White Photography

Sometime ago I did a Black and White post that I had previously shared on Google+ and was asked to do more of these posts here on blogger so I hope to do 1 a month on a Wednesday and today is the day for it.  Hope there is at least 1 shot you like.  By the way, all photos are shot in colour and then converted.  That is a better way of doing it.

I hope you enjoyed these shots and I would be interested to know which one/s you liked best.

I am not an expert but love experimenting so thanks for visiting.

Many thanks for all comments left on this post.

  1. Altho, tigers are my favorite big cats, I do love this image....but, I think my favorite of the grouping is the Isle of Wight!!! There is so much ambiance in this image. A story in itself.

  2. Fabulous black and white photos. The first one of the spiral stairs reminds me of the inside of one of those beautiful nautilus shells. I love the tiger also, but all your photos are very striking in black and white.

  4. Beautiful B&W shots! The spiral stairs remind me of the stairs to the top of the Iowa Statehouse--those were quite the climb!

  10. The first image I am green with envy over. It's your picture but had it been mine I would have rotated it CCW so that it started in the top right. I would have cropped square to get rid of the large detail at the bottom of the picture.
It's just sour grapes I would love to have taken it.

  11. Most of these are fine example of blacks and whites with an excellent range of tones. One or two seem to lack the punch of a wide range. That's not to be taken as critical. You do B&W so we'll, I'd hope you many more pictures with a lack of color.

  13. Today I really, really like the staircase (first) and the tiger (last). You mentioned that shooting in colour and then converting was the best way to do it. Can you tell me why?

    1. HI EC I will give you a link to answer your question. http://digital-photography-school.com/black-and-white-digital-photography-in-camera-or-post-production/ If you shot in RAW which I do not, the answer could be slightly different and you can find that answer in Google on the web,

  16. These are wonderful! My favorites are the towpath, the cormorants, and the tiger. The first photo reminds me of the old Alfred Hitchcock movie, Vertigo I wish you would do a black and white post once a week, that would be awesome!

  19. Absolutely beautiful, Margaret! I especially like the first, second, and last photos. BTW, you asked where I find the time to write the Hodgepodge. It is actually the easiest post of the week to write, because Joyce has given us the prompts. All I have to do is write answers.

  27. Oh, my goodness, I love B&W! I always have, and thse make me wonder why I don't do more of it...or convert to B&W. When I had film cameras, I almost always kept B&W film in one camera.
