WEEKEND REFLECTIONS - Little Egret

These are a few shots I took while out with my bird class on Monday at the  ‘Floodgates’ and although the tide was great we saw lots of birds, however they were too far away for great shots.  See yesterday’s posts for more shots. The 4th shot is of the overall scene at the Floodgates.  Below are three shots of the Little Egret.

Below is the scene at the Floodgates where we saw probably about 25,000 of Pale bellied Brent, a flock of 700 Golden Plover and another flock of 300 Dunlin.  There were also Turnstone, Lapwing, Ringed Plover, Oystercatcher, Curlew, Black tailed Godwit, Pintail and Mallard duck, Black headed and Great Black backed Gulls, Pied Wagtail and only this one Little Egret.  We normally see a Grey Heron Floodgates however not that day but later on we saw one at another site.  It was a great start for my class to our birding day.

I am sorry the birds were not close enough for any
decent photographs however I hope you enjoyed seeing this Little Egret.

I am linking in with WEEKEND REFLECTIONS.

Thank you for visiting and also to those who leave com.ments

  1. Great shots of the egret, I particularly like the long wispy feathers that blow up in the breeze. I've never been that close to one in real life. I always enjoyed seeing them in the far distance, so white and elegant.

  3. Very nice pictures - hard to believe that this bird has become so common in the UK - was a bit of a rarity when I as a lad!

PS: there seems to be a problem with all of the memes that use inLinkz at present so I can't see if you have connected to WBW or not this week! SM

  19. I am sorry too that we couldn't see all of the birds. You named off birds I have never heard of let alone been able to see. What a great place you live in. The little Heron is a beauty ... love the reflection. Nice pictures, as always Margaret. Sorry I haven't been commenting much. I seem to fly into and out of my blog these days. Too many things to get done for the holidays ... naturally I have left it all to the last minute so I am very busy. I do take the time to peruse your wonderful pictures though ... love every single one :)

  23. WOW! This bird is just gorgeous! AND you have captured him looking at his reflection in the water, so wonderful. It is almost like an illustration from a fairy tale. I know he must be looking for fish, but it really does look like he is admiring himself!

  25. Your "distanced" pics are better than some of my close ups:):) The egret somehow looks heart warming (wrapped up in its own little world) and the last view is gorgeous!
