GOOD FENCES - Elephants at Dublin Zoo

As most of you know this week, I am taking a break from posting on my 6 week trip to Africa to show you the photographs and video I took at Dublin Zoo with my new camera.  Other than sign boards, all of them are straight out of the camera without ANY editing.
I would value you opinion.
Two of the mothers have a calf each. born on 17 July and 19 August, however t another baby was born at the zoo on 17 September which I did not know about or see at the time.

I hope you enjoyed this post.

  3. A "beautiful baby" with a difference there Margaret. Elephants are wonderful creatures that I enjoyed seeing in Africa and India.

  4. Beautiful Elephants, but I hate to see them like that, but, it might be the only way, if killers get there way.

  5. I love elephants, but I always get sad when I see them in Zoos. They just don't belong there...

  7. Love your close-ups showing the wrinkles and rough texture of an elephant's skin. Since I was a child in the mid-fifties, I've never seen animals in a zoo again. I also prefer seeing them on the African Veld but hey-ho, at least here they 're protected from the ivory poaches! You're doing so great with that camera. Jo

  8. It looks to me like you've mastered that new camera really well Margaret I love seeing all the fine detail and every little hair! Did you see Karen's post on Chai and Chardonnay that an elephant is killed every 15 mins for its Ivory? I'm not a great lover of Zoos either but I do accept that the best zoos in the world are playing a great role in some breeding programs, I see the zookeepers here with a great love of their animals...

  9. Have to admit I am not a lover of zoos but the photos are excellent Margaret as are the ones of the Tigers in the previous post. You must be really pleased with your new camera.

  10. These are great! It's so interesting how elephants control the tip of their trunk like fingers. Have you seen the elephants that paint?

  11. It looks as if the elephant environment at the zoo has been well-planned. That baby elephant is cute. You've got another set of excellent pictures with your new camera.

  12. Thank you for having time to share these lovely photos. Too bad they took down that tower in 1962, sometimes they just forget about saving what was already wonderful! Enjoy yourself.

  14. That baby elephant is so adorable. You got great shots of the mom and baby. Lots of details on them like the fur, skin, wrinkles etc...and of course the fences. They don't look sturdy enough to hold back an elephant but I'm guessing they do the job just fine.

  17. Your photographs are beautiful, Margaret. They brought out the magnificence of a species I am especially drawn to. It makes me sad to see elephants in zoos after learning a great deal about them from a sanctuary in Tennessee at this site: www.elephants.com That said, I'm happy the elephants are only trained as necessary for health care, and that they have a free area to roam.

  18. I think your photos are fabulous, Margaret! Great captures of the elephants. What kind of camera did you get? I'd love to have a camera that takes really crisp, clear shots like these. Of course, it helps to have steady hands which I don't have. Have a great day!

  19. I think you've chosen a very good camera, Margaret. The photos are turning out well!

  25. Fantastic job with the new camera. I would much rather see photos 'right out of the camera' than those which have been WAY TOO unreal looking.... So many people enhance their pictures to the point that the pictures are just not real looking at all. SO---you get an "A" today!!!!! Love those elephants --especially that sweet little baby (Dumbo)...

  27. You got some great shots with your camera - and no editing - nice job! I love to watch the elephants - their size amazes me!

  28. The youngsters look so tiny next to the adults. I imagine it takes a pretty strong fence to contain an elephant.

  29. I love elephants and enjoyed viewing the video as well all the images.

  30. Oh, baby elephants are just too cute for words. I have always wanted to pet an elephant...

  31. Hi Margaret,
Lovely photos! I have seen some elephants, back in India, however, not in the wild. The baby elephant scores a perfect 100% on the cuteness scale. The adult is a lovely creation of Mother Earth as well.
Thanks for sharing these lovely photos with all of us.
    Have a Peaceful Weekend!

    Peace :)

  33. I think these photos look great. Personally, I would rather see photos that aren't processed at all, than photos that have been over processed. I'm not saying you do that, because you don't. Sometimes a little adjustment is needed to help bring out some detail. I'm totally fine with that.

  37. The fences better be "good" with animals as large as elephants. Nice photos of the animals.
