Metallic Starling

Some time ago my family in Australian and myself made a visit to the Port Douglas, Queensland and when staying with friends I spied all these Metallic Starling coming to this bird bath for a drink.  I had never seen as many together before.  I have posted about these birds before both with information, photographs and video regarding their breeding and perhaps some of you may not have seen that.  If you CLICK HERE you can access that post.

I hope you enjoyed seeing these birds.

Thanks you for visiting.

Many thanks for leaving comments on any of my posts.

  2. These are very different from the European Starling we are used to seeing. Those eyes are quite distinctive--almost eerie. Obviously, they are communal birds!

  3. Beautiful birds and amazing to see so many of them together at the water. A very tropical look to the surrounding vegetation too.

  4. Aren't they stunning? Bronzed statues by the world's most skilled sculptor couldn't adorn a water feature any better.

  5. interesting Margaret; I hadn't even heard of them before, let alone see them; thanks for sharing; great photos and what a wonderful opportunity for you to capture them. You wouldn't have wanted to be up at Port Douglas earlier this week with the cyclonic conditions

  11. These pictures go beyond photography ... this is art at it's best. Everything about them is beautiful. The moment, the comradery, the colors, the peaceful shadowy milieu. I love these, Margaret ... there is just something about them that grabs me. Thank you :)

    1. HI Do you mean you have the European Starling? That is the same on as mine in Northern Ireland where I live but the metallic Starlings are in Australia. My daughter lives there and so I have photographed there many times and every Wednesday I try to feature an Australia bird. Thanks you for comment and also on my last post on B.Guillemmots.

  23. Wow they are shiny and lovely. Metallic is the perfect name for them. They almost look like a sculpture around the fountain/bird bath.

  24. They are beautiful birds! I thought there was only one kind of starling, the pesky ones we have here. Yours are really colorful and those red eyes are amazing. Great photos!

  27. We have a lot of starlings here in New Zealand but they are bigger and don't have those spooky red eyes! Your captures are wonderful!

  28. Great photos! Such elegant sleek--looking birds with striking red eyes, gathering around the fountain. We have lots of plain black starlings around our ranch.

  30. That's alot of Starlings at the Birdbath.... We have a couple of Starlings here --but not many. They can take over the bird feeder area if there are many of them... So---I'm happy just with my TWO... ha

    Great photos.
