Black Guillemots at Bangor

These photographs were taken last month and I thought I had better show you them now as my Black Guillemots will be returning any day in summer plumage to breed at Bangor Pier.  Apart from the last 2 shots where the Black Guillemots have practically turned into their breeding plumage (same day shots), the rest are still in their winter plumage.  I wanted you to see how different they looked from winter to summer plumage.

I hoped you enjoyed seeing the difference in these Auks plumage from season to season.   I have resisted going down to the pier recently as I have so much catching up of my photographs and I know I would not be able to resist photographing these “Bangor Penguins”, as we call them!

Thank you for visiting.

Many thanks for comment on any of my posts.

  1. Easily mistaken for a penguin if they are standing on a white beach in the snow.

  2. HI Adrian If you see these little guys walking along the pier, you would think 'Penguin'. No beach, no snow! I will try and get a video this year of of them doing this. I think it looks hilarious. Thanks for visit. Have a great weekend.

  6. These are great birds - I have only seen them a couple of times - never lived in the right part of the world for them to be a regular. I did not know that their plumage changed so much.

  13. They look a bit scruffy in their winter attire Margaret but much sharper dressed for summer!...[;o)

  14. The Guillemots have such a sweet face ... they remind me a little of the Grebes because of their little short bodies ... they look like something that should have a key and needs to be wound up periodically. Adorable, Margaret.

  15. Gorgeous birds - and I love both their outfits. Nice to know that other species have 'mating plumage'. We could learn from them too...
