Birds at Castle Espie in December

On my way home from the Quoile pondage as the weather had improved and the sun had come out, I called into castle Espie to photograph some ducks.

While I was motoring along the shores of Strangford Lough, I spotted this Redshank.

This is one of the views from the car and there are quite a number of waders.

This has been heavily cropped to show you Black tailed Godwits.

When I arrived at Castle Espie, this lovely male Chaffinch greeted me.
The following ducks etc are in the collection at Castle Espie WWT.

 Hooded Merganer

 Bufflehead

Male and female Shoveler

 Bahama Pintail

Male Eider

 Red crested Pochard

  2. Lovely collection of photos, Margaret. The Bufflehead might be one of my favourite birds ever thanks to this post! Lots of introduced birds in that location I am assuming? Surely you don't get Whistling-Ducks and Bahama Pintail in Europe?

I hope you resolve your computer issues soon, I look forward to your posts! :)

  4. Wow Margaret, I have never seen so many assorted ducks...how marvelous, and your images are grand. I must confess, I never remember signing on for Google shares and I hardly ever go on that sight. I see your name, and other friends, but do not even know how to work the whole thing...sigh! I have been on FB since 2009 and know how that works, but just cannot figure out the Google groups etc...
