Fountain at Walled Garden

Yesterday I said the Walled Garden at Bangor Castle Park would be closed until next spring however before we leave I would like to show you the fountain in the middle of the garden.  I took the first shot and the video at the end however Eileen found a creative mode on her camera and the other photographs are hers and I think they are brilliant.

The Ward family designed the Castle Park Walled Garden in the 1840s. It was never open to the public and was considered by many as a secret garden!

North Down Borough Council have restored this beautiful the Garden and it was officially opened as a visitor attraction in April 2009.

In 2009 the garden was awarded the
Royal Horticultural Society Permanent Landscape Award for the UK.

The site appears level however most people do not know that in fact the site is on a considerable slope, one corner being  3.3metres ( 11 feet) lower than its opposite corner. This meant that the fountain had to be constructed  level without reference to the actual ground contour otherwise the water would have flowed over one side and only partially filled the other!

I hope you enjoyed both Eileen and my stills and video.

Many thanks for visiting today and I appreciated all the VERY kind and complimentary comments you left on my post yesterday.

  5. Margaret, that looks like a very peaceful and calming place to sit and rest for a while. Being an ex engineer it's interesting to see the metalwork construction of the fountain. Do you know when it was made, not part of the original 1840's garden, I'm guessing?
Eileen has captured some interesting and artistic shots there...[;o)
