Birds along Seacliff Road with Jimmy

A few weeks ago Jimmy, (you might remember he was 80 years old last week) and I birded round Sealiffe Road, in the town where I live and these are the birds we found that day.

  1. II very much like the light in the first two photos, Margaret. So that's what a purple sandpiper looks like this time of year! Saturday my husband and I plant to search some out at a Toront Park. I have never seen one before.

    1. HI EC Yes they are a bit difficult to find however (certainly here) they often hang out with Turnstones. Now most people seeing the group usually thinks they are all Turnstones but if you know what Turnstones look like, you will see the difference. Look up my Saturday post on Turnstones (21September 2013), notice the difference in bill colour, leg colour although similar and the Purple Sandpiper has not black bib. Hope that helps and I would love to know if you find any where you are. Perhaps sone Saturday I will do a post on Purple Sandpipers! Many thanks for your comments. Happy birding!

    1. Hi Lynn Yes there were 8 birds on this post but that was not all the birds we saw. I could not get them all photographed. Usually if we have a mornings birding we see between 30 different species of birds depending on what sites we bird in. If we bird watch all day we can see between 40 and usually 53. I have had more however it is unusual for Northern Ireland. I do not chase numbers but enjoy being outdoors and enjoying what turns up. Many thanks for your comment.

  5. The seascapes are gorgeous. Definitely not something we see in Indiana. :) Love those red legs on the redshanks, too.

  16. Rocky coastlines are one of my favourite habitats. Great pictures of Purple Sandpipers which are rare here. I have seen them only once in Ontario. The largest group I have ever seem was in Anglesey in Wales.
