Birding by train from Belfast to Derry/Londonderry

This was the day I had organised my nursing friends on a trip to Derry by train and the last part of the journey passes around the coast.  The sea was quite rough and there were very few waders.   I only saw 2 flocks of Dunlin lift as the train passed.

Today there were only 8 of us at this reunion and when we arrived I had organised that we take a tour around Derry on a double decker bus. The guide was excellent and we all enjoyed it very much.  Afterwards we went to the Custom House for a beautiful lunch.  Below are' The Girls'!

I have to say that because of the company and great chat I did not see many birds on the journey.  The only ones were Swan, Lapwing, Lesser Black backed and Herring Gull, Blackbird, Wood Pigeon, Heron, Tufted duck, Hooded Crow, Magpie and Starling.  Since I was not able to take any bird photos today, below I have put on a video I took a couple of days ago of Starlings bathing.

Thank you for dropping in on my blog.

  2. Yes we had a great time and I would have loved to put on some of the history of Derry as it was facsinatig but I didn't think it would be correct to do so on a 'Nature' blog!

  7. Thanks for your comments on the Waxwings Margaret, flamboyant and accommodating birds never get tired of them. Birding and getting out and into nature is a tonic, done it all my life. It's obvious you and your group are getting the same satisfaction from this wonderfull hobby. Have you been to Strangford Lough. regards, Dave McGough.
